Choose an Arborist and a Certified Tree Care Team with These Helpful Tips

Choosing any home service company requires a little bit of research first. The wrong company can end up making things worse and can cost an arm and a leg. Perhaps the most obvious thing to keep in mind while choosing a tree care company is to choose a certified arborist or a team with a certified arborist. But there are some other factors to keep in mind, too. Read on to find out how to choose a tree service company.

Look for Experience, Knowledge, and Communication

The first things to look for, and perhaps the most important, are experience, knowledge, and communication. Experience and knowledge usually come as a pair, so when a tree service company seems to have one without the other, it may not be the best choice. A quick glance at the tree service company’s website should give an overview of their credentials, but only direct contact can give a glimpse into their communication.

Good communication is seamless and smooth. If you’re struggling to be understood, it may not be a good fit. Simple questions should have clear and concise answers. If the tree care company’s communication is poor, it’s a sign that other aspects of the company’s operation may be poor, too.

Ask About Safety Precautions, Proper Equipment, and Insurance

Whether the job is tree trimming, tree pruning, or tree removal, the tree service company should have the proper equipment and take the proper safety precautions. These aspects of a reputable service protect the workers as well as the homeowners and their property. Each employee should have hard hats, eye protection, and harnesses, among other tools of the trade.

Insurance is also a big factor in a tree care company. A provider should be fully insured no matter what. If they dodge the question or can’t provide proof of insurance, it’s time to move on to another company. Insurance and proper certification is standard in the tree care business and shouldn’t be shrugged off.

Determine Waste Management Techniques and Pricing

The last two factors when it comes to choosing a tree service company are waste management and pricing. There should be no hidden fees when it comes to pricing. Your questions about what services you’re buying should be answered up front and by the team member who built your proposal. Many tree health care companies offer a tree risk assessment to determine what work needs to be done. They should always provide the homeowner with a clear understanding of costs associated with the risk assessment and any other work discussed.

Waste management is another factor that should be considered before deciding on a tree service company. Unless requested otherwise, the company should never leave the trimmings behind. If the homeowner is left a mess to clean up, that’s a sign of a poor tree pruning company. A company should always leave the property the same or better than when they arrived.
